The design of the side table series Kanji was inspired by the characters of the Japanese language. Just as in calligraphy with a bamboo pen the stroke widths vary, Kanji changes in spatial observation: its form appears linear or flat depending on the angle of view. Kanji is based on a complex manufacturing process, as the tables are each made of a single strip of sheet metal, the ends of which only almost touch.
Design: Thomas Merkel, 2014

Materials: The tables are made of 2 mm powder-coated sheet steel with a fine textured surface.
